RWE presents infrastructure for electric vehicles at Hannover Messe 2009
From 20 to 24 April interested visitors to Hannover Messe are given opportunities to learn about the electro mobility projects of the RWE Group. Following the motto “RWE – The energy to give a clean lead”, the Essen-based energy group is presenting a new recharging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
By bringing electricity onto the roads, the company wants to help reduce carbon emissions in vehicle traffic in the future. Electric charging stations are to be equipped with a customer-friendly billing system that will allow the convenient everyday operation of such vehicles. According to the plans of the company, recharging stations are to be installed at customers’ homes, at workplaces and in public parking areas. In addition, the infrastructure will also cover business-to-business partners, such as shopping centres, multi-storey car parks and fleet owners. The billing system is to have the same simplicity and convenience as a mobile phone.
RWE aims to set up a standardised infrastructure in electro mobility across all sectors of industry. This should facilitate the European-wide use of such vehicles. The Essen-based energy company is now working with Daimler and other partners in the automobile and energy sectors on the widest possible standardisation of communication between the charging infrastructure and vehicles. Their common goal is to accelerate the subsequent standardisation process.
RWE and Daimler are currently conducting a joint venture called “e-mobility Berlin” – a large-scale pilot project whereby this climate-friendly powertrain technology is used in road traffic. It involves the use of 500 recharging points and 100 electric vehices from smart and Mercedes-Benz in the city of Berlin. “e-mobility Berlin” is currently the world’s biggest pilot project in electro mobility.
