National strategy conference on electro-mobility

  • The Federal Government is preparing a national electro-mobility development plan.
  • RWE and Daimler are taking the lead with the "e-mobility Berlin" pilot project.

The national strategy conference on electro-mobility is taking place today and tomorrow in Berlin. The Federal Government expects this event to provide vital stimuli and concrete suggestions regarding the structure of a national electro-mobility development plan. Central elements of this plan will be presented at the conference to around 400 experts and decision makers from the automotive and supplier industry, energy utilities, battery research, the information and communications technologies industry, environmental associations plus politics and administration.

Dr. Jürgen Großmann, Chief Executive Officer of RWE AG, was a guest speaker on the podium, because RWE regards electro-mobility as a particularly climate- and customer-friendly mobility concept with a future. Back in September, Großmann therefore launched the "e-mobility Berlin" project together with Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Daimler AG's CEO. Together, the automotive manufacturer and the energy company will be testing the use of over 100 smart and Mercedes-Benz brand electric vehicles in Germany's capital city from 2009 onwards. These will be driven by particularly high-performance rechargeable lithium ion batteries. RWE will be installing around 500 charging stations throughout Berlin for this purpose.
