Major pilot project in North Rhine-Westphalia: e-mobility in commuter traffic.
Since 2009, Daimler and RWE – supported by the German government – have been promoting greater electromobility on Berlin's streets. Daimler has contributed over 100 smart and Mercedes-Benz electric cars to the scheme, all of them powered by highly efficient lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. The vehicles could be leased by fleet, business and private customers based on a full-service model. At the same time, RWE set up around 76 charging stations at central points such as car parks, shopping centres and railway stations. The result is the creation of a blanket smart electricity charging infrastructure in public spaces. In addition, RWE is responsible for operations, the supply of green energy and central infrastructure system control.
Our pioneering mobility concept offers an integrated solution, that combines electric vehicles for unlimited every-day use and the perfectly fitted charging infrastructure. The smart fortwo electric drive is the first electric car worldwide to be equipped with a smart charging management system and state-of-the-art lithium-ion technology. It combines enjoyable driving with an emission-free range of 135 kilometres – more than enough for daily use in an urban environment.
